Attacker stabs 10-year-old girl in the neck outside a school in western Sweden
STOCKHOLM - Police in Sweden are searching for a man who stabbed a 10-year-old girl in the neck outside a school in the southwestern city of Goteborg on Monday.
The girl was seriously wounded in the attack outside the Bergsgards school and was brought to a hospital with the knife still stuck in her neck.
The girl is now undergoing surgery but was conscious and able to speak to police on the way to the hospital, said police spokesman Bjorn Blixter. He said the victim hadn't seen the attacker before.
Blixter said police are still searching for the perpetrator, a man in his 20s, according to the girl's initial statement.
They are also talking to several witnesses, including other children at the school, for further clues.
It wasn't immediately clear what motivated the attack, but Blixter said there was no indication other children at the school were ever at risk.
