
Fire crews respond to blaze at BP Cherry Point near Ferndale
FERNDALE, Wash. - Crews were responding to a storage unit on fire at the BP Cherry Point refinery near Ferndale right across the border from Surrey,B.C.
Live television footage Friday afternoon showed a large plume of heavy black smoke and some flames shooting up from the facility.
The footage shows several streams of water dousing the facility as well.
A BP spokesman told KING 5 news that no injuries have been reported so far.
The refinery has its own fire crews but mutual aid was requested from other agencies.
There have been no reports of injuries.
The fire is reportedly in a tower on the south side of the refinery, which is the largest in the state and can produce up to 230,000 barrels of fuel a day.
